1000 Women Trust participates in three exhibition events at end of November to fight GBV
Three exhibition events focusing on gender-based violence and featuring the women-led organization 1000 Women Trust and other like-minded NGOs focusing on fighting gender-based violence, will occur from 29th November until the 2nd of December as part of the 16 Days of Activism against gender-based violence.
16 Days of Activism will run from 25th November to 10th December 2022 and it’s theme is UNITE! Activism to end violence against women and girls.
16 Days of Activism is an annual international campaign that kicks off on 25th November, the international day for the elimination of violence against women, and runs until 10th December, Human Rights Day.
The global theme for this year’s 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, which will run from 25 November to 10 December 2022, is “UNITE! Activism to end violence against women and girls”.
The first exhibition event starting on 29th November will be at the Golden Acre which will offer NGOs at the forefront of the fight to eradicate gender-based violence the opportunities to display their banners and pamphlets which highlight their plan of action to fight the femicide.
“It will obviously offer NGOs the opportunity to share their strategies of fighting the pandemic with the public and also liaise with potential donors,” says Tina Thiart, director of 1000 Women Trust.
“Obviously the #HearMeToo-facilitators of 1000 Women Trust will be a focal point, as they are community networks where women subjected to gender-based violence share their stories about the pandemic and where they also offer possible solutions as to how to combat the scourge,” Thiart added.
“At these groups, women would also highlight what the barriers are to using existing technology in the fight against gender-based violence.”
The second exhibition event takes place at the Cape Town City Hall on the 1st December along with the South African Police Services horse unit, where NGOs fighting gender-based violence will again be offered the opportunity to highlight their own strategies and campaigns to eradicate GBV.
A third exhibition event featuring the South African Police Services and the NGOs will take place on 29th November at the Cape of Good Hope castle.
NGO’s who want to take part in the exhibition, must contact Thiart on 0732079079 to let her know about their interest in these exhibition events.
